Dave here. We got a fair bit of positive feedback on my previous posts about using MAGpie, the free closed captioning software from the National Center for Accessible Media. However, it’s still kind of a difficult process to describe using only text; as such, I thought I’d follow up with this short tutorial. In it, I do some quick timings for one of our marketing videos. The basic controls I use in this are F6 – to start/pause, F9 – to set caption start time, and F10 – to set caption end time. I neglect to mention it, but notice that whenever I press F9, the selector moves down to the next line, saving you the trouble.

I hope you find this useful! I’d like to note, by the way, that this was recorded using our very own KZO Virtual Studio. (Edited in Adobe Premiere after the fact.)
